It seems only a few short years ago that The Kennebunk Inn’s chef/owner Shanna O’Hea found her “go-to cocktail” – the Negroni.  Being a chef, Shanna focused her creative efforts on improving and perfecting the Negroni. The result: a new and very popular signature cocktail for Academe, the restaurant and tavern at The Kennebunk Inn.
“Shanna’s Life-Saving Negroni” has been proven to be on of the restaurant’s most popular drinks.

While we would love to serve you at the restaurant, you may want to “try this at home.” For you, we present the recipe below.

June 5-11 is Negroni Week 2017.  Academe and The Kennebunk Inn will be offering their signature Negroni with a portion of the proceeds going to benefit Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. We hope that you will come in to Academe at The Kennebunk Inn and sample a Negroni. It’s for a good cause.

People have asked why we we call our version of the Negroni. “Shanna’s Life-Saving Negroni.” Will it truly save your life? Is it a magical elixir?  Truth be told, it generally improves your mood, and brightens your day – which is pretty magical – but the real reason for the name is the Life Saver shaped, caramelized orange slide ice cube that floats in the middle of the Negroni. Come to think of it, it’s pretty magical as far as ice cubes go.

Cuisine: Drinks & Cocktails
Recipe type: Craft Cocktail
Serves: 1 cocktail
  1. Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker or pint glass over ice.
  2. Stir until well-chilled. Negronis are never shaken.
  3. Strain and serve over caramelized orange slice large "Life Saver" Ice cube
