Shanna & Brian O’Hea, chefs & owners of The Kennebunk Inn and Academe restaurant are featured on the cover of The Village magazine’s February issue. The article tells the story of how the O’Heas met, what inspired them to open their own restaurant and what they love about the Kennebunk area.
“I cannot believe how much I love it,” she said. “We like the sense of community that Kennebunk brings; we’ve made good friends here. We love that it is very pet friendly—love our animals. We love how close we are to the ocean and major cities including Portland, Boston, New York City and Montreal. And for a seaside seasonal town we have amazing food options, which continue to grow.”
Gillman writes about the O’Heas love of travel and the genesis of their world famous Maine Lobster Pot Pie and other lobster specialties.
“Maine lobster is known worldwide for its succulent flavor. Tourists come to Maine looking for the perfect lobster dish whether it be steamed whole or chilled picked meat in a traditional New England toasted hot dog roll.” As chefs, the O’ Hea’s goal was to respect tradition but to put a personal spin on a the dish.
The lobster pot pie spurred a growing side business for the couple, after it was featured on the Food Network’s “The Best Thing I Ever Ate – Reinvented Classics” in early 2011, as well as on the Travel Channel’s program “Food Paradise.” “The Best Thing I Ever Ate” series profiles favorite Food Network stars offering a taste of “the things you must try before you die.”
